Body Contouring, Muscle Toning, Fat Reduction

Dr. Usha Rajagopal is proud to announce the addition of EMSCULPT Classic and EMSCULPT NEO to the San Francisco Plastic Surgery and Laser Center. Her practice is the first in San Francisco to offer this innovative and in-demand procedure for body contouring and have performed over a thousand EMSCULPT treatments. EMSCULPT is the world’s only non-invasive body shaping procedure to simultaneously build muscle and burn fat. In addition, the EMSCULPT creates a world´s first non-invasive butt lift procedure. No downtime. No anesthesia.

The Emsculpt uses brand new technology called High-Intensity Focused Electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology, which is similar technology that the MRI is based on, but the energy level is less than the MRI. This stimulates the muscles that the probes are laid on. With the abdominal area and buttocks, we place a paddle on each side, and then the stimulation starts. It initially feels like a little jolt but then you will have quite intense contractions.

Who are Emsculpt candidates?

  • patients seeking improvement in muscle and fat

  • patients looking for non-invasive BUTT lift alternative

How much does Emsculpt cost in the San Francisco Bay Area?

At the San Francisco Plastic Surgery and Laser Center, the Emsculpt treatment starts at $3,000 for a package of 4 sessions. We recommend a minimum of 4 sessions.

How long is the treatment time for Emsculpt?

The treatment time for the Emsculpt is 30 minutes, with a minimum of 4 treatments scheduled within 2-4 weeks.

How soon can I see results from Emsculpt?

You may begin to feel the results right after your Emsculpt treatment. Most patients reported positive visible results two to four weeks after their last session and continue to see improvement several weeks following the treatments. Maintenance treatments may be scheduled a monthly.

Is there any downtime after the Emsculpt treatment?

No, there isn't any downtime after your Emsculpt treatment. You may return to your regular activities immediately after.

What is a good starting BMI for Emsculpt? Is it effective for the deeper fat?

Emsculpt is great if your BMI is less than 30 because Emsculpt does not remove a lot of fatty tissue and certainly does not address any intra-abdominal fat, but it is great for slightly reducing subcutaneous fat in the abdomen and strengthening and defining your abdominal muscles.

How can I make Emsculpt more effective post-treatment?

Having an active lifestyle and not being overweight is most important. After the Emsculpt session is done it is really important to maintain your core strength, so I would recommend doing core exercises like planks or sit-ups. The more you activate your abdominal muscles the longer the Emsculpt effect will last.

How can Emsculpt help diastasis recti/muscle separation?

The Emsculpt helps with diastasis recti, which is a common occurrence after pregnancy. When the womb stretches and the baby grows, the abdominal muscles want to accommodate the growth of the baby so the six pack muscles separates. When that happens, it’s great for accommodating the baby, but after the baby is born the muscles may not necessarily come back together. A lot of women could have a little pooch which may not be fat at all -- it’s just muscle that’s weak and could not come back together. Muscles need to work symmetrically in concert to be most effective. Some women could have issues with back pain and not enough core strength, and Emsculpt can also help with that.

What is the difference between Emsculpt and Coolsculpting? (Watch video below)

Coolsculpting is also a non-surgical treatment and primarily for fat reduction. If you have a little bulge that you want to reduce, Coolsculpting works the best for stubborn fat but it doesn’t work on the muscle at all. Whereas, Emsculpt works in the muscle primarily and a little in the fat. We offer a dynamic duo where we recommend the Coolsculpting treatment first. After 3 months, when the Coolsculpting has reached its final result we will recommend the Emsculpt. They work hand-in-hand to give you your best body.

What is the Emsculpt experience like? How does it work? (Watch video below)

It works in two ways: you get less fat sitting above the muscle and the muscle gets bigger and stronger resulting in a more defined core. When you go through the Emsculpt treatments, the contractions are so strong that you start to notice changes in both your six pack forming and your oblique muscles coming inwards. When you look at patients who had the Emsculpt treatment, not only do they have a good six pack, the entire abdominal wall (six pack and obliques) is much tighter and they have a smaller and more defined waist. In the buttock area, we have a lot of patients who want more fullness to the buttock. It will also improve and strengthen the buttock muscle but when we do the buttock treatment, we use a different protocol since we don't want a lot of fat loss because most men and women are looking for more fullness. This is much more than what you can achieve by doing squats at the gym.
