What is Bellafill®?

Bellafill® is an injectable polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) collagen filler. 
This collagen immediately adds volume to the skin to lift wrinkles and firm skin, resulting in more youthful and smoother skin. The PMMA microspheres create a matrix that supports the body’s own collagen production. 

Bellafill® has been FDA approved for the correction of facial wrinkles, or “smile lines” since 2006. Bellafill® is more than a cosmetic treatment option. In the largest dermal filler study ever conducted, Bellafill® was proven safe through 5 years of testing for the correction of nasolabial folds.  

This treatment does require a skin test to identify patients who may be allergic to the lidocaine or collagen in Bellafill®. At the San Francisco Plastic Surgery and Laser Center, we provide consultation and testing for this treatment at our Union Square office.

Getting Your Bellafill® Treatment

The first step in a Bellafill® treatment is the allergy skin test.  Once that’s completed and shows no sign of reaction, the procedure is begun.

Bellafill® is injected into the skin in target areas with an ultrafine needle. The treatment plumps the skin to smooth away wrinkles and folds and fill in acne scars.

After the Treatment

Bellafill® is a simple, in-office treatment with little to no downtime.  After treatment, you can immediately return to your normal daily activities.

As with any injectable dermal filler, temporary mild swelling and redness may occur at the treatment site. Bruising is normally mild and lasts 3 to 7 days.  Other possible side effects are soreness, tenderness, and itching.
