What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is a filler that gives your face volume and youthfulness by simultaneously filling in wrinkles and stimulating your body to produce new collagen. It’s made from “poly-L-lactic acid,” an acid that has been used in other medical products (like dissolvable stitches, for example) for years. Poly-L-lactic acid is synthetic, but is designed to be completely compatible with your body’s normal processes—in other words, it’s harmless! And whereas fillers like Juvederm are better suited to filling in creases around the mouth and plumping lips, Sculptra is an excellent option for patients who wish to plump cheeks that have lost their shape/decreased in volume with age.
How does Sculptra work?
Like most fillers, Sculptra is administered by injecting it below the surface of the skin using a very fine needle. Results aren’t immediate; you probably won’t see visible results until you’ve had a few treatment sessions. Because Sculptra works by actually changing the structure of the skin, however—filling in wrinkles and jumpstarting your collagen production—the results it produces are far longer-lasting than those of other filler products. One clinical study even found that for most patients, Sculptra’s anti-aging effects lasted for up to two years after their first treatment session.
If your face has lost volume and begun to sag as you’ve aged, Sculptra is the perfect option for you. The idea of having to wait for a couple of months for the effects of your treatments to reveal themselves may not be very appealing, but think of it this way: because Sculptra takes effect gradually, the results are often more subtle and natural-looking than those of other fillers—and since they last longer, you won’t have to make as many trips to our office to maintain your new, more youthful look!
