Brazilian Butt Lift vs. Butt Implants

Brazilian Butt Lift, also sometimes referred to as “JLo Plasty,” is a cosmetic procedure that creates a fuller, rounder, and more feminine derrière by using the patient’s own body fat. This procedure has recently become drastically popular due to the prominence of curvaceous “Latin American” inspired figures in Hollywood. There are generally two surgical procedures for augmenting the buttocks: Brazilian Butt Lift and buttock implants.

For a Brazilian Butt Lift, liposuction is first used to remove excess fat from the waistline, stomach, thighs, and/or hips. The harvested fat is then purified and the best fat cells are transferred by micro-injection into the buttocks to contour the patient’s backside as desired.

Since butt implants can harden and/or move over time and cause other unsightly and painful complications, Dr. Rajagopal prefers the Brazilian Butt Lift technique and does not use butt implants in her buttock augmentation surgeries. The Brazilian Butt Lift creates a much softer and more natural looking figure. This technique also gives the patient and surgeon more control over the final size and shape of the buttocks. The doctor can also store the patient’s fat so that more fat may be injected a few months after surgery if more fullness is desired.
