PRP + ACell Hair Regrowth with Taylor Szupiany, PA-C

PRP + ACell hair restoration is a great procedure for those who have started to notice hair thinning, increased hair shedding, and hair loss in the past 5 years.

The main goal of this treatment is to stimulate activity in hair follicles. This means promoting an active growth phase in currently dormant hair follicles while preserving and strengthening hair.

In our office, we combine PRP with ACell. The PRP is rich in growth factors and is naturally restorative, and the ACell provides extracellular matrix to continue building hair follicles. After the initial treatment series, this combination often results in a once-yearly treatment.

So, let me take you through a PRP session.

First, we start on topical numbing. Patients usually numb for about 30-40 minutes. During that time, we will do the blood draw and centrifugation to collect the PRP. I then mix the PPR with Cell, and numbing solution called lidocaine.

I transfer the PRP and Cell into 3cc syringes for injection and provide my patient with ProNox, which is oxygen and nitrous oxide. This provides optimal comfort, and conveniently leaves the system within 15 minutes of discontinuation.

The injections only take 5-10 minutes; I make it as efficient as possible because I know it can be uncomfortable.

After the procedure, you should avoid exercising and washing your hair for 24 hours. Chemical treatments and hair dyes should be avoided for 72 hours. Otherwise, there is pretty minimal downtime.

Typically patients will notice less hair shedding in about two weeks post-treatment. It takes about 4-8 months to see an appreciable improvement in hair quality, strength, and volume. The hair will continue to thicken over the next 12-15 months.
